A tortoise is much like an elephant - if given the best husbandry, it will live to see in the next generation of your family and probably several after that. No pressure then! Seriously though, you cannot entertain the idea of owning a tortoise without considering the long term. Med. spur-thighs are the friendliest tortoises, in my opinion, and are much overlooked but make the most lovely of family pets.
